If you bought the new WB Jazz Singer box...

October 24th, 2007 (08:42 am)

From alt.movies.silent:

...there are reports that there are errors, maybe most noticeably that the sixth reel of The Gold Diggers of Broadway was switched out with something else. (!)

However, this was found late in the process; Warner Brothers had (1) pressed around 200,000 copies and (2) didn't want to delay another two months, so they went ahead.

The belief (at ams, at least) is that Warner Brothers will eventually make this right, whether it's exchanging the entire box or just the one disc.

However, there are lots of kudos for the historical information included with the box (and there's a lot).

I thought the film was annoying on an entertainment level, but I could do with the rest of the information...

No prob. I'm still not sure why Warners would've handled it quite this way, but who knows...

I saw The Jazz Singer a couple years back in a retrospective, and probably wouldn't have gone for the box; but, now if my library gets it, I'd love to check out the other things included.
