Everything's going at a manic pace, but I did want to point out a couple of things I've seen lately, both from alt.movies.silent.

First, there's an excellent description of what can happen to film over time at Lost British Television. Although the examples are from 40-yr old BBC color television programs, it parallels (absent maybe the nitrate deterioration issue) what's happened to many old films, not just silents. It also points out what a lot of DVD productions face when contemplating creating those close-to-pristine prints.

Second is The Sandman, A Tragic Tale in Three Parts. It's a modern short shot in a German Expressionist style, from a short story by E.T.A Hoffman. It's also supposed to be a work in progress. Not 100% perfect; but an interesting take, and definitely work a look-see. I'd like to see how it's incorporated into a longer piece (which may not be in a German Expressionist style).
