White Rabbit Down the Hole

September 9th, 2007 (06:40 pm)

I am so so behind... There are reviews from the trip to Chicago, there's the NY Korean Film Festival, and there are some DVDs and such. It's mostly half-written on random sheets of paper, but it'll eventually get posted. Just not sure when.

While I was at the NYKFF last week, I picked up an old copy of Theme magazine (the first issue: Vanguard). A little hard to describe, but it seems to be a magazine about hip Asian culture. Between the articles about Korean punks and Hiroshi Fujiwara, a fortyish Japanese arbiter of youth cool, there is a pretty interesting piece about Jessica Yu, the filmmaker who did In the Realms of the Unreal, which presented Henry Darger to the world (he was the janitor who wrote years of fantasy stories which never saw the light of day until after he died). I saw some pieces about Darger when the film was out, but not much about the filmmaker.

I also found over on alt.movies.silent a coming attraction:

On Saturday, September 23 Tom Mix's great-grand-daughter, Kelli Biggs, will host a screening of his silent classic Riders of the Purple Sage with live musical accompaniment. She will also share letters and short films from the family collection. The show will begin at 2 pm in the Jim Rouse Theater at 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia MD 21044. Your $10 donation will help support the Wilde Lake High Speech and Debate Team.

Also: I found my passport today. Pretty painlessly, too. So I can get it renewed for Oz without paying many hundreds of dollars. Of course, I still have to get the rush renewal...
