Alice in Wonderland, by way of The Forest of Doom

June 24th, 2009 (12:52 am)

Tim Burton’s next project: Alice in Wonderland, coming in 2010.

The film drops quite a few names: Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as The White Queen, Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar, Steven Fry as the Cheshire Cat, and Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock (… I thought the Jabberwock was from something else, but that’s okay).

The Burton touch – and we shouldn’t forget, this *is* a Tim Burton movie – is that there’s lots of fanciful imagery, including using digital mainps on not only the sets but also several of the actors.

The movie is set to open in spring 2010. Until then, here are some images to whet your appetite.

Alice in WOnderland

Not just Jabberwock, but The Red Queen, The White Queen, Tweedledum and Tweedledee are from "Through the Looking Glass." "Jabberwocky" is a poem with words explained by Humpty Dumpty, so maybe he's in it, too.

The rest are all from "Alice in Wonderland" so the movie combines the two. I always found Alice a bit tedious, but "Through the Looking Glass" is brilliant. I wonder if the White Knight is in the movie.--Syd
